I have tried and tested a LOT of different packaging for my terrarium ingredients over the last year and I have finally found one that is pretty much perfect!
I was using an extremely thin biodegradable cellophane bag at one stage and they started to disintegrate before they reached the customer. Oops!
Paper bags also disintegrated as a lot of the organic materials breathe and dampen the bags. BIG oops for that one!
Kraft pouches - too bulky and mainly lined with laminated plastic.
I've been avoiding BOPP bags as I really try to keep as green as I can.
I'm currently using a thicker cellophane bag that is taped at the top which makes it harder to get the ingredients out and I've had a few reports that they are splitting open during shipping.
So after a few trial runs with great results, from next week onwards all terrarium ingredients will be packaged in Biogone Ziplock Biodegradable Bags. I'm super happy with them! FINALLY a decent packaging solution!
-They can be easily opened and poured from the top and resealed if you have any extra left over.
-The best thing? They can be put in your general waste bin as they biodegrade 90+% faster than conventional plastics. They are also approved by REDcycle for soft plastics recycling.
-Each bag has the disposable methods printed on it and website for more info.
-Designed by a great Aussie company that is passionate about the environment and sustainability.
