Watermelon Peperomia is a beautiful plant for indoors or shaded areas outdoors. It has large round leaves with a stripe pattern that resembles the skin of a watermelon.

Its natural habitat is growing as a groundcover in tropical rainforests in South America so placing it in area where it will receive bright, indirect light will help to keep it looking great.

In order to thrive, it needs to be kept in a warm environment. Keeping it within a temperature range of 20-30 degrees will help it to grow beautifully without leaf curling and deformities.

It can be prone to root rot. If left too long in water, the stems will break and eventually the whole plant will rot. Free draining potting mix is a must.

Only water when the top 2-3cm of soil is dry or when the leaves feel thinner than usual. It's a good idea to touch and feel the leaves as this is the best way that the plant communicates that it's thirsty.

As with all houseplants, air circulation is very important.

As this plant is native to tropical rainforests, it's important to keep the humidity high - above 60% is needed. This can be achieved by putting it sitting on a pebble tray filled with water or a bowl of water near the plant.

It has a small flower that is best removed to make sure all nutrients go to the beautiful foliage.

It will also benefit from a feed every 3-4 weeks in the warmer months when it's growing. Make sure to dilute the feed to at least have of the dosage per label instructions.

They do require a little bit of work, but when they're grown in favourable conditions they're a stunning plant!
